Before working for OBHK, Derek worked in sports facility management, NGOs, and governmental roles. He wanted to use his experience to help disadvantaged youth access sports and exercise, which led him to his role at Outward Bound.
In the fundraising department, Derek works on major gift campaigns to help disadvantaged youth and adaptive participants get on life-changing Outward Bound courses.
Derek loves any water sports, like kayaking, windsurfing, sailing, and dragonboating.
I connect with the idea of compassion for the community, and helping participants develop and discover their potential. I’ve observed that youth have much more potential to do what they want to do, but they lack confidence, and they don’t know how to reach their goals. With a group of participants, they can develop compassion and caring for each other, and after the programme here, they can still use those skills in society. I hope to spread this mission not only to the participants, but to donors and other people as well.
