Did you know that OBHK is part of a global network of Outward Bound Schools? This February, Outward Bound Vietnam hosted the second annual Outward Bound Asia Regional Staff Symposium at their newly built mobile basecamp in Ha Long Bay!
Over 100 delegates from 10 different schools attended, along with 6 lucky staff from OBHK, to share ideas, collaborate, network, and inspire each other. Working together makes us all stronger!
OBHK is pleased to have presented two workshops on our unique programmes: The first was on how the unique conditions of living and working on a sailboat lead to teamwork, compassion, confidence, and resilience. The other was on our active aging adaptive paddling programmes. We’re so excited to be able to share something we’re proud of with other schools!
Other presentations included how to incorporate gratitude into a course, how to use mindfulness to promote student health, and an inspiring account of Vladmir Mesaric’s (founder of Outward Bound Croatia) first ascent of Mt. Everest by the West Ridge Direct route in 1979. By imagining the training he did at that time and looking at all the changes of the technology and facilitates within these forty years, delegates were impressed by his determination, achievement and contribution. It is so inspiring to be connected with visionary people from Outward Bound Schools around the world!
Cat Ba Island Climbing
OBV organised a 3-day climbing trip as part of pre-conference learning and networking, within the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ha Long Bay. What a highlight for passionate outdoor adventurers!
Thank you to Outward Bound Vietnam for hosting this symposium, and to the delegates from Outward Bound network for participating. We can’t wait for the next Outward Bound Asia Conference!
