Meet Rida Nisar AHMAD, the Face of Courage!

Supported by Bright Future Charitable Foundation,
she will take up a huge challenge on Nov 24 - to abseil from 1000ft at the iconic One Island East.

HK Vertical 1000 is not just a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to step out of their comfort zone, but also the chance to fundraise for a local charity - Outward Bound Hong Kong and its work to #FutureProofYOUth.

Listen to her story:

I have always enjoyed adventures and challenges, I value opportunities that are given to me and I would take it if I have the chance. As a half-Chinese, half-Pakistani Muslim girl born and raised in Hong Kong, my identity has presented both opportunities and challenges growing up.

While a significant part of me strives to be seen as a local who can seamlessly fit in and accomplish anything regardless of my appearance, another part of me seeks representation. I aim to demonstrate to the brown community in Hong Kong that, despite societal expectations, we are capable of achieving incredible things.

It’s funny, I consider myself a very self-conscious person with not much confidence, yet I would say I’m quite brave when it comes to trying new things. I hope this experience will teach me to appreciate the significant step I’m taking for myself and the communities that we are fundraising for. So, here’s to my first-ever abseiling down a building, because, WHY NOT!

Participating in Outward Bound has been one of the highlights of my year in 2023. Earlier this year, I took part in the ‘20 Impact 20’ project, an expedition from Hong Kong to Japan with a diverse crew of women of different ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds. This once-in-a-lifetime adventure provided me with many incredible experiences and connected me with many like-minded individuals.

I especially loved the idea that we had to give back to underprivileged communities after our expedition. I firmly believe that nature is the best classroom, with Outward Bound’s outdoor experiential education and their inspiring instructors, our youth will grow to become strong and resilient leaders in the future.

It also sponsors students to participate in the WorldSkills Competition and Outward Bound Training program.

Research shows every $1 returned $13 social benefits

Every year, over 2500 participants received subsidies to participate in Outward Bound courses. Participants report a significant increase in resilience, compassion, self-confidence, and environmental responsibility.

Your donation allows Outward Bound Hong Kong to provide life-changing experiences to Hong Kong youth and enables disadvantaged young people to re-imagine themselves and their future, contributing to a stronger Hong Kong.

Thank you for making this event happen!
